THE ISLE OF ARRAN
The Isle of Arran, which is situated in the Gulf Stream, is also known as 'Scotland in Miniature' having both highlands and lowlands.
There are a host of activities to suit everyone from bird-watching, fishing, climbing, walking, cycling, quad-biking, paragliding, history, genealogy, pony-trekking, the flora and fauna, or just relaxing and soaking up the scenery; the list is endless. The island also boasts a total of 7 golf courses.
Sights to visit include Brodick Castle, heritage museums, standing stones, ruined castles and even a distillery.

The gulf-stream influence is shown in the palm trees and lilies and abundant vegetation that can be found growing naturally on the Isle of Arran.

As the island is only 20 miles long it is easy to travel around the 56-mile coast road in half a day, although it is supposed to take less time and be a shorter route if you are travelling in an anti-clockwise direction!

TRAVEL
Ardrossan (40 miles from Glasgow) is the departure point for the main ferry to Brodick on the Isle of Arran.
A smaller vehicle ferry also operates from the mainland between Claonaig on the Kintyre Peninsula (110 miles by road from Glasgow) and Lochranza on Arran.
(See Caledonian MacBrayne timetables)

There are regular UK and international flights to Glasgow Airport and Prestwick Airport (30 miles south of Glasgow).

Frequent train services to Ardrossan operate from Glasgow and Prestwick by ScotRail.

Car hire on the island can be arranged if required - please ask.
